Mr. Sam Harvey-Carlson
Mr. Sam began teaching at Riverview in 2016. He graduated from Augsburg College in 2009 with a degree in Music Education. Mr. Sam has taught beginning band, drum lessons, piano lessons, and general classroom music to students ages 4-50.
You’ll never guess what Mr. Sam likes to do when he isn’t teaching music...he likes to play music! Mr. Sam writes music on his own and also plays with different bands around the Twin Cities. When he isn’t playing music he likes going outside and exploring nature. Canoeing, camping, fishing, hiking, skiing, running, and biking are some of his favorite activities.
Mr. Sam grew up in Shoreview, Minnesota and now lives in South Minneapolis. He lives with his wife Lisa and their two pets; Dwayne the cat and Denny the dog. Lisa is a food scientist who helps come up with new Granola Bar flavors. Dwayne is a grumpy old cat who likes scratchy pads and cat food. Denny is a fantastic black lab who likes sniffing, running, and leaping off of docks to get sticks.
Riverview is a very diverse community that Mr. Sam feels honored to be a part of. Riverview’s students are musical, brave, and very creative. Mr. Sam and students work together to explore and learn all about music.
“Music is a world within itself, with a language we all understand, with an equal opportunity for all to sing, dance, and clap their hands” -Stevie Wonder
